Visiting a drug or alcohol service

Get in touch with one of our free, confidential services and talk to one of our trained staff.

Find your local service

Your first appointment with us may be over the phone or face-to-face in one of our services.

Our services are safe and comfortable places. They have tea and coffee making facilities, toilets and things to read.

There may be other people waiting in the reception area when you visit.

What to bring with you

If you come into one of our services please wear a mask or face covering. If you don’t have any, speak to staff and they can provide one.

It’s useful to bring a diary, notebook or phone with you on your first visit. You can use these to make a note of your future appointments.

You can bring a friend along with you to the reception area if you want.

What we'll talk about

At your first appointment, we’ll talk about your drug or alcohol use so staff can get an idea of what help you need. We'll also talk about other aspects of your life and how you’re feeling in general.

Staff will ask you what help you need now and what plans you want to make for the future.

Appointments usually last about an hour.

After your first appointment

At the end of your first appointment you may be matched with a member of staff who will be your main point of contact. Or you may have to wait till your next appointment to be matched with someone.

They will help you plan your next steps and any treatment you need. Your plan is based on what you want to do and at a pace that suits you.

You won’t have to do anything that you’re not ready for.
