Addaction responds to the result of the general election

The Conservative Party will form a new government having won 364 seats in the December 12th general election.

Laura Bunt, Acting CEO of drug, alcohol and mental health charity Addaction, said:

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen more and more people experiencing issues with drugs, alcohol and poor mental health, but not enough are accessing treatment. We know the deep and lasting impact these issues can have on communities and family lives. But we also know what can help people recover. The new government has committed to a new strategy for tackling addiction in 2020 and we look forward to working with them to help more people access treatment and get the care and support they need to rebuild their lives. This strategy needs to build on evidence of what works and respond to people’s changing needs and expectations from services. With drug-related deaths at record levels, the government needs to be ambitious and help charities, public services and communities to work together to respond to the challenges we face.”
