From recovery to inspiration: Ross takes on the London Marathon

Ross

Every year, tens of thousands of people take to the streets of London for the iconic marathon, but for Ross Camps, 41, this year’s race is far more than just a test of endurance. Ross is running to raise money and awareness for WithYou in Cornwall.

Ross’s connection to WithYou is deeply personal. Several years ago, when he was experiencing challenges with alcohol and drugs in Cornwall, WithYou offered him the lifeline he needed. Thanks to the support he received, Ross is now celebrating five years of sobriety and a healthier, happier life.

Determined to give back to the charity that helped transform his life, Ross is taking on the gruelling 26.2-mile London Marathon for the second consecutive year, having previously raised £2,600 for WithYou in 2025.

I knew I needed help," says Ross. "I was encouraged to contact WithYou by my employer. I was put in contact with Ian, and the support I've received has been brilliant. I've also received weekly support from Jacqui and Billy and the team at the community cafe - they've all been a big part of my recovery journey."

“WithYou is a charity that is really close to my heart,” continues Ross.

I want to give back to the charity that supported me through my recovery journey. I’m living proof that you can achieve anything in recovery. If sharing my story inspires even one person to reach out to WithYou and get the support they need, then it’s all been worth it.

“I also lost a very close friend last year. His mother, Jacqueline, is really supportive - she checks in on me and makes sure that I’m doing okay. I really want to give back to her, too”

Ross’s story is a testament to hope, resilience, and the power of community support. By sharing his journey and running for WithYou, Ross aims to inspire others to seek help and to remind everyone that recovery is possible.

If you’re able to contribute this month, please consider donating to Ross’ fundraising page or sharing his story. Every donation helps us change lives through the work we do at WithYou.
